Intervista con la collezionista Elisabeth "Beth" Nielsen - Interview with the collector Elisabeth "Beth" Nielsen

E' da parecchio tempo che ho in mente di effettuare delle interviste, per entrare in modo un poco più approfondito nel mondo del collezionismo dei beads in generale ma non soltanto, anche per conoscere meglio le persone con cui abitualmente abbiamo a che fare proprio grazie a questa passione comune.

Ricordo bene la prima persona che notai nei gruppi, era il 2010. Rimasi colpita dai beads che possedeva, quasi tutti da museo, dal suo buon gusto oltre che dalla disponibilità sempre dimostrata, per questo la prima intervista desideravo farla a lei, che reputo essere una delle prime grandi collezioniste Trollbeads.

Così ho contattato Elisabeth Nielsen, meglio conosciuta come "Beth", che con mia grande gioia ha accettato di essere intervistata.

Beth Nielsen (ebbene no, non è una parente di Søren…Nielsen è un cognome molto comune in Danimarca, mi ha raccontato lei stessa) ha 63 anni e vive ad Esbjerg nello Jutland, la quinta città più grande della Danimarca.

Beth, come molti di voi avranno senz'altro intuito, è una donna creativa.

Non è un caso infatti se le sue composizioni di bracciali sono tra le più apprezzate.

Nel 1986 Beth, che ama in particolar modo il Sud America, inizia a progettare delle decorazioni che fa realizzare in Ecuador in pasta di sale. Attraverso fiere del settore le sue decorazioni, a nome BETH DESIGN, vengono vendute in molti paesi.

Nel 1990 apre un negozio nel centro di Esbjerg nominato COLIBRI', dal gusto prettamente etnico, in cui vende vestiti e gioielli fatti a mano, importati da differenti paesi del mondo con prevalenza dal Sud America.

Nel 2000, insieme al fidanzato, Beth ha dato vita ad una linea di maglieria fatta realizzare in Sud America, Perù ed Ecuador. Le collezioni a nome TROLD DESIGN, presentate alle fiere del settore internazionali, hanno avuto successo e le vendite sono proseguite sino al 2011, dopodiché una malattia l'ha costretta ad interrompere l'attività.

Ora è attualmente in pensione, mamma di due figli e nonna di una bambina di tre anni, la famiglia dice significare molto per lei.

Beth, da quanti anni collezioni Trollbeads e come hai conosciuto il marchio?

Colleziono Trollbeads da circa 14 anni.

Era il 2005 e una mia amica, per il suo compleanno, aveva una lista desideri di soli Trollbeads, non conoscevo le perle e così, andando in città e recandomi in negozio, vidi dei piccoli beads in argento e finì che oltre al suo regalo di compleanno ne acquistai cinque per me. Così ebbe inizio la mia avventura con Trollbeads.

Ricordi quale è stato il primo bead che hai acquistato?

Sì, è stato "Bambino" (ora ritirato).

Hai un bead preferito?

L'"Universo Felice" è sempre stato uno dei miei preferiti. Mi piacciono di più i vecchi beads.

Hai mai conosciuto di persona Søren Nielsen e Lise Aagaard? In quale occasione?

Ho incontrato Søren Nielsen e Lise Aagaard per un evento al museo d'arte moderna Arken di Copenaghen nel 2010. In questo evento è stato presentato il primo World Tour dedicato alla Danimarca.

L'evento al museo Arken è stato molto rilevante, un evento internazionale in cui Lise Aagaard ha tenuto una conferenza su come ha iniziato i suoi primi beads e come la sua azienda è cresciuta, in quanto a molte persone piacevano i piccoli e divertenti beads in argento, che suo padre Svend Nielsen e i suoi fratelli Søren e Jens disegnavano e producevano, e quelli che lei stessa faceva. Tutta la famiglia stava fabbricando piccoli beads per il loro piccolo negozio a Lyngby (cittadina a 10 km. da Copenhagen).

Alcuni anni dopo, Lise ha fatto un corso di lavorazione del vetro in Inghilterra, poi ha iniziato a creare i beads in vetro.

Quando è stato inaugurato il negozio monomarca a Odense, ho potuto salutare Lise Aagaard.

Oltre Trollbeads, ci sono altri marchi che apprezzi?

Sì, nel 2018 ho iniziato a collezionare "Ohm Beads".

Quali passioni hai nella vita oltre i beads?

Mi piace il lavoro a maglia e dipingere ma la mia più grande passione è senza dubbio Trollbeads con cui trascorro parecchio del mio tempo giocando con i beads ed interagendo attraverso il web.

Ti è capitato, nei gruppi, di incontrare dal vivo altri collezionisti? Credi anche tu che la passione per i beads abbia contribuito a creare nuove amicizie?

Dai gruppi danesi incontro spesso alcune ragazze e ci divertiamo piacevolmente. Dai gruppi all'estero ho incontrato solo poche persone in realtà. Corrispondo con alcuni amici stranieri ed ho con loro una buona relazione epistolare.

Sì, sicuramente sono nate molte amicizie dalla stessa passione.

Sei mai stata in Italia? Quale città ti piacerebbe visitare eventualmente?

Non sono mai stata in Italia ma vorrei visitare Roma.

Tornando ai beads, quali ti danno maggior soddisfazione e quali collezioni con più interesse?

I beads che prediligo sono senz'altro i vecchi del Museo, che ho acquistato tra il 2011 ed il 2014, mentre i beads che in assoluto prediligo collezionare sono gli armadilli.

E per chiudere l'intervista la domanda riguarda la chiusura (un gioco di parole): quale è la tua prediletta?

Ne ho due: Tulipano e Troll.

INTERVIEW WITH THE COLLECTOR ELISABETH "BETH" NIELSEN


It has been a long time since I planned to carry out interviews, to get into a little more depth in the world of collecting beads in general but not only, to get to know better the people we usually deal with thanks to this common passion.

I well remember the first person I noticed in the groups, eleven years ago. I was struck by the beads she possessed, almost all from the museum, from her good taste as well as from her always demonstrated availability, so I wanted to do the first interview to her, which I consider to be one of the first great Trollbeads collectors.
So I contacted Elisabeth Nielsen, better known as "Beth", who to my great joy agreed to be interviewed.

Beth Nielsen (no, she is not a relative of Søren ... Nielsen is a very common surname in Denmark, she told me herself) is 63 years old and lives in Esbjerg in Jutland, the fifth largest city in Denmark.
Beth, as many of you will undoubtedly have guessed, is a creative woman.
It is no coincidence that his bracelet compositions are among the most appreciated.
In 1986 Beth, who loves South America in particular, began designing decorations that she used to make in Ecuador in salt dough. Through trade fairs, its decorations, named BETH DESIGN, are sold in many countries.
In 1990 he opened a store in the center of Esbjerg named COLIBRI ', with a purely ethnic taste, in which he sells handmade clothes and jewelery, imported from different countries of the world with prevalence from South America.
In 2000, together with her boyfriend, Beth started a knitwear line made in South America, Peru and Ecuador. The collections named TROLD DESIGN, presented at international trade fairs, were successful and sales continued until 2011, after which a disease forced it to stop operating.
Now she is currently retired, a mother of two and a grandmother of a three-year-old girl, the family says it means a lot to her.


How many years have Trollbeads collections and how have you known the brand?
I have been collecting Trollbeads for about 14 years.
It was 2005 and a friend of mine, for her birthday, I had a single list of Trollbeads, I didn't know the pearls and so, going to the city and going to the store, I saw small silver beads and ended up that in addition to her birthday present I bought five for myself. Thus began my adventure with Trollbeads.

Do you remember that it was the first heel you bought?
Yes, it was "Child" (now retired).

Do you have a favorite bead?
The "Happy Universe" has always been one of my favorites. I like the old beads better.

Have you ever met Søren Nielsen and Lise Aagaard personally? On what occasion?
I met Søren Nielsen and Lise Aagaard for an event at the Arken modern art museum in Copenhagen in 2010. This event presented the first World Tour dedicated to Denmark.
The event at the museum was very important, an international event in which Lise Aagaard held a conference on how she started her first beads and how her company has grown, in terms of many silver people, that her father was chosen for the brothers Søren and Jens drew and produced, and those she did herself. The whole family is making small beads for their small shop in Lyngby (a town 10 km from Copenhagen).
A few years later, I did a glass processing course in England, then I started creating glass beads.
When the flagship store was opened in Odense, I accepted to greet Lise Aagaard.

Besides Trollbeads, are there any other brands you like?
Yes, in 2018 I started collecting "Ohm Beads".

What passions do you have in life beyond the beads?
I like knitting and painting but my biggest passion is without a doubt Trollbeads with whom I spend a lot of my time playing with beads and interacting through the web.

Did you ever meet other collectors live in groups? Do you also believe that the passion for beads has helped to create new friendships?
From Danish groups I often meet some girls and we enjoy ourselves pleasantly. From the groups abroad I met only a few people actually. I correspond with some foreign friends and I have a good relationship.
Yes, many friendships have been born from the same passion.

Have you ever been to Italy? Which city would you like to visit eventually?
I have never been to Italy but I would like to visit Rome.

Returning to the beads, which give you greater satisfaction and which collections with more interest?
The beads that I prefer are undoubtedly the old ones of the Museum, which I purchased between 2011 and 2014, while the beads I absolutely prefer to collect are the armadillos.

And to close the interview the question concerns the lock (a play on words): which is your favorite?
I have two: Tulip and Troll.
