INTERVISTA CON GIUSEPPE DI MEO VINCITORE DEL TROLLBEADS PEOPLE'S BEAD 2016 - INTERVIEW WITH GIUSEPPE DI MEO WINNER OF THE TROLLBEADS PEOPLE'S BEAD 2016

Come vi raccontavo nella scorsa prima intervista, il mio scopo è quello di addentrarmi nel mondo del collezionismo e degli appassionati.
Talvolta la passione ne svela un'altra e credo che questo sia proprio il caso di Giuseppe Di Meo, vincitore del Trollbeads People's Bead 2016 con il bead in vetro sfaccettato "Viva la Vita", riproducente i colori dell'arcobaleno e dal rivetto corredato, da un lato, da un disco in argento in cui sono riprodotti il logo Trollbeads (i due Trolls rampanti) e le date del 40° anniversario 1976-2016, una idea davvero originale che ha meritato appunto la vittoria.

Giuseppe ha 32 anni e vive in provincia di Napoli.
Laureato magistrale in "Organizzazione e Marketing per la Comunicazione d'Impresa", presso la Sapienza di Roma, è giornalista pubblicista ed ha scritto, per alcuni anni, in svariati portali occupandosi di spettacolo e televisione, provando grande curiosità ed interesse per il mezzo televisivo.
Ha lavorato anche come Coach formatore per una azienda che si occupa di formazione nelle scuole superiori, attivando dei laboratori d'impresa e comunicazione all'interno delle classi degli istituti.
Appassionato di musica pop, considera Britney Spears la indiscussa numero "1", dichiarandosi fan sfegatato! Non di sola musica e beads è appassionato Giuseppe, bensì anche di pasticceria, difatti ama fare dolci e visitando il suo profilo Facebook o Instagram è più facile notare foto di dolci piuttosto che selfie o beads. Pazienza, precisione e metodicità sono le ricette del suo successo; ricordo ancora una sua "Angel Cake" alta quanta un grattacielo, lievitata quindi perfettamente e dall'aspetto di alta pasticceria.
Talentuoso Giuseppe quindi che non si ferma qui ma dichiara di amare anche le piante ed i fiori ed in particolar modo i Bonsai, altra passione che richiede pazienza, cura e dedizione ma i cui risultati, come lui stesso asserisce, sono per chi sa attendere, un po' come la vita.
Aspira a diventare docente o qualsiasi altra cosa che di buono possa accadere (non escluderei la carriera di artigiano che già in parte ha incominciato).

Giuseppe, da quanti anni collezioni Trollbeads?
Sembra ieri, eppure ormai colleziono Trollbeads da dicembre 2014. Ricordo un'amica che me lo fece vedere e che mi parlò del fatto d'avere aderito ad una promozione che le consentì di avere il bracciale in regalo, acquistando la sola chiusura: la famosa giornata Trollbeads. Così, affascinato da tutto ciò, ricevetti il mio primo bracciale con chiusura "Tempio Sacro" e la lettera "G", iniziale del mio nome, regalatomi proprio per quel Natale (2014).

Come ti è venuta l’idea di partecipare al People's Bead?
Appena misi piede nel mondo Trollbeads, la curiosità fu davvero tanta e nello spulciare il sito internet vidi del concorso il cui tema, quell'anno (2015), riguardava i "viaggi"; purtroppo si era da poco concluso l'inoltro delle candidature e ci rimasi malissimo pensando potesse essere un concorso indetto una tantum. Quando scoprii che l'azienda era solita riproporlo ogni anno, mi ripromisi di partecipare l'anno successivo e così è stato: ho partecipato (e vinto) il People’s Beads nell'anno in cui ricorrevano i 40 anni di Trollbeads. Che ricordi!!

Cosa hai pensato quando hai saputo di avere vinto?
Hai dedicato a qualcuno la tua vittoria?
Essere già tra i 100 finalisti tra migliaia e migliaia di proposte pervenute all'azienda, significava per me avere già vinto, un vero e proprio onore in un concorso così seguito da tutti gli appassionati. Ma ancor di più, esserci riuscito al primo tentativo.
Quando seppi di aver vinto ero seduto in camera mia in un giorno qualunque, aggiornando il mio indirizzo di posta scopro da lì la mail della vittoria. Una mail differente da tutte le altre, quasi scambiata per spam per via della lingua non italiana. Poi un attimo di silenzio, respiro lungo e ho urlato come non mai (con grande spavento di mia madre). Avevo vinto. AVEVO VINTO. IO! Ma ci pensate?! Un'emozione e una gioia indescrivibile.

Nel modo più specifico non c'è stata una vera e propria dedica a qualcuno. Sarei stato scontato se lo avessi dedicato esclusivamente alla mia famiglia ed ai miei affetti più cari (quello è sottinteso); più che altro sono stato felice di poter condividere un bead dal significato così forte, così come le numerose battaglie nel mondo per i diritti fondamentali e civili che per molti sono ancora utopia. Di sicuro "Viva la Vita" è a loro che si rivolge in primis, come un invito alla vita e alla forza di farcela, sempre nonostante tutto. Tra l'altro nello stesso anno di uscita, qui da noi in Italia sono state approvate le unioni civili. Quando si dice il bead giusto nel momento giusto.

Come è avvenuta la premiazione?
Hai per caso conosciuto Søren Nielsen e Lise Aagaard in persona?
Una premiazione "ufficiale", se così la vogliamo chiamare, non c'è stata. Lo staff di Perlunica, poco prima della proclamazione del People's Bead, mi ha invitato per una mini intervista presso la loro sede, per testare le emozioni del momento, oltre a fare un mini tour all'interno del loro quartier generale immerso nel verde.
Ho ricevuto il premio tramite il corriere di Perlunica, che è consistito nel bead da me progettato in versione con il rivetto in oro, accompagnato da una cartolina di congratulazioni firmata da Lise Aagaard, oltre al premio in denaro, come scritto anche sul sito Trollbeads.
Ho saputo successivamente che nelle prime edizioni del concorso si aveva la possibilità di volare in Danimarca ed essere ospiti della casa madre. Sarebbe stato davvero figo, di sicuro indimenticabile.

Per cui no, per mia sfortuna non ho potuto conoscere né Lise e né Søren, con il quale però ogni tanto ci commentiamo/condividiamo i post su Facebook a vicenda. A pelle, al di là del grande artista che è, trovo che Søren davvero sia una persona di sensibilità innata, oltre che una persona con cui farsi tante risate.

Come hai iniziato a creare beads?
Dopo aver vinto il concorso mi son detto: "E ora?". La voglia di continuare e fare altro era tanta e, visto che sono sempre stato una persona incline a piccoli lavori di artigianato, ho pensato che forse lo step successivo sarebbe potuto essere proprio provare a creare qualche mio pezzo. La scintilla si è definitivamente accesa dopo aver assistito ad un evento sulla lavorazione della cera, che dà il via al processo di creazione di ogni bead. Da lì ho deciso di cimentarmi facendolo completamente da autodidatta.
Così ogni bead che potete vedere nella mia pagina/vetrina "Beyoutiful Beads", nasce come prototipo in cera dalle mie mani, con tutti i suoi pregi o le imperfezioni del caso (c'è tanto ancora da imparare!), e poi realizzato all'interno di un laboratorio orafo mediante la tecnica della cera persa.
Di certo non si tratta di beads realizzati con stampante 3D o al computer.

E per fortuna!

Quali sono le tue fonti d’ispirazione?
L'idea di fondo è quella di essere se stessi, bellissimi così come si è (Be you, beautiful = Beyoutiful), il tutto condito da ogni singolo attimo della nostra vita (i nostri cari amati beads). Le fonti di ispirazione per cui, non possono che affondare nel vissuto di ogni giorno. A volte passeggio e da una situazione, un evento, un motivo, una forma, una gioia, un malessere, mi capita di pensare se quel determinato momento possa essere immortalato sotto forma di un bead; alle volte è così naturale e spontaneo se si sa vedere oltre la realtà delle cose. Di sicuro la fase ideativa è quella più stimolante se, passeggiando per il troppo pensiero, non si rischia di andare a sbattere contro un palo! (tranquilli non è ancora successo). 

Alcune creazioni "Beyoutiful Beads" di Giuseppe Di Meo

Ricordi quale è stato il primo bead che hai acquistato?
Hai un bead del cuore? Escluso il tuo ovviamente ;-)
Se non ricordo male, il primo bead che ho acquistato è stato, senza neppure farlo apposta, "Chakra Arcobaleno" (vincitore del People's Bead 2012). Amo i colori e purtroppo le prime scelte che riguardano i vetri ricadono SEMPRE su quelli variopinti, quelli di difficile abbinamento, e infatti alle volte me ne pento perché sono ostici da collocare. Ma sto imparando anche su questo fronte, la strada è lunga!

Di beads del cuore ne ho tanti, ma se proprio dovessi sceglierne uno per significato ed importanza, sicuramente sarebbe "Legame d'amore", un bead molto semplice ma dall'enorme forza evocativa. Due amanti che, nonostante tutto, le voragini, le distanze, si tengono saldamente per mano per non lasciarsi andare. Malinconico e romantico allo stesso tempo.

Effettivamente è un bead molto bello a cui non ho mai guardato con attenzione.

Collezioni altri marchi? Quali?
Sì colleziono un po' di tutto, ma sempre basandomi su ciò che realmente mi piace, non bado molto alla rarità per l'acquisto di un bead. Dopo Trollbeads, che è e resterà sempre il primo amore, in ordine adoro quelli di OHM Beads e Redbalifrog, ma il supporto va anche ai tanti artigiani del vetro come la connazionale Alessia Bead Fatone o altri.

Progetti per il futuro? Puoi anticiparci qualcosa?
Progetti per il futuro? Speriamo beads e cose belle! Diciamo che l'estate non è ancora conclusa per cui… poi se accantoniamo questo argomento, sarebbe bello poter mettere in pratica ciò per cui ho studiato, in un lavoro che mi dia altrettanta gratificazione così come lo è realizzare beads artigianali.

Giuseppe, a conclusione dell'intervista, puoi raccontarci una curiosità su di te?
Per rimanere in tema: sapevate che la mia tesi di laurea magistrale riguarda Trollbeads? Ebbene si. Alla ricerca di un argomento da trattare per la mia tesi, che volevo fosse qualcosa di personale e sentito, ho pensato bene di focalizzarmi su di un aspetto particolare del brand: ovvero "La percezione dei gioielli componibili Trollbeads come beni di neo-lusso". L'elaborato, oltre a prevedere una ricerca bibliografica ed un excursus di settore sul lusso, è stato affiancato da uno studio empirico che mi ha portato a sottoporre un questionario a tutti gli appassionati di gioielli componibili che popolano i vari gruppi on-line. È stato un lavoro gratificante, che ho condiviso volentieri con una parte dello staff di Perlunica, e alla quale ho consegnato con orgoglio e piacere il mio stesso elaborato. La speranza era che potessi riceverne un parere a riguardo o ancor di più (perché no?!) l'inizio di un percorso con uno stage in azienda, che purtroppo non è arrivato. Com'è che dice il detto: "se son rose fioriranno?" Evidentemente le mie non lo erano.

Giuseppe, ricordo molto bene il periodo della tua tesi ed io sono stata una di quelle che avevano compilato il questionario.
Felice tu ne abbia tratto soddisfazione. In quanto alle rose, siccome ben sappiamo che hanno le spine, meglio affidarsi ad altri "fiori" ;-)
Grazie per avere accettato con entusiasmo questa intervista, per esserti un poco svelato ed averci raccontato di te.

Giuseppe è una persona sensibile ed appassionata e questo trapela dai suoi lavori e dalle sue parole.
I suoi beads trovo abbiano una forte connotazione naïf, un'anima genuina che viene rappresentata attraverso le sensazioni ed i sentimenti a loro volta espressi in ogni singolo argento. Questa è una caratteristica che reputo importante, per un artista artigiano, affinché possa distinguersi tra tutte le proposte già presenti sul mercato e direi che Giuseppe, con i suoi beads, si distingue benissimo.

Un grande in bocca al lupo dunque a Giuseppe per i suoi progetti!

Vi ricordo che il 9 agosto Trollbeads annuncerà il vincitore o la vincitrice del People's Bead 2019.
Chissà se questa prossima vittoria porterà ancora la bandiera italiana?

INTERVIEW WITH GIUSEPPE DI MEO WINNER OF THE TROLLBEADS PEOPLE'S BEAD 2016

As I told you in the last first interview, my aim is to enter the world of collectors and enthusiasts.
Sometimes the passion reveals another and I think this is the case of Giuseppe Di Meo, winner of the Trollbeads People's Bead 2016 with the "Celebrate Life Bead" faceted glass bead, reproducing the colors of the rainbow and the rivet provided, by one side, from a silver disc in which the Trollbeads logo (the two trolls rampant) and the dates of the 40th anniversary 1976-2016 are reproduced, a truly original idea that deserved victory.

Giuseppe is 32 years old and lives in the province of Naples, in Italy.
Master's degree in "Organization and Marketing for Business Communication", at the Sapienza University of Rome, he is a freelance journalist and has written, for some years, in various portals dealing with entertainment and television, experiencing great curiosity and interest in television .
He has also worked as a Coach trainer for a company that deals with training in high schools, activating business laboratories and communication within the institute classes.
Passionate about pop music, he considers Britney Spears the undisputed number "1", declaring himself a huge fan!
Giuseppe is not passionate about music and beads alone, but also pastry, in fact he loves making sweets and visiting his Facebook or Instagram profile makes it easier to see photos of sweets rather than selfies or beads. Patience, precision and methodicality are the recipes of his success; I still remember his "Angel Cake", high as a skyscraper, perfectly leavened and with a high pastry appearance.
Talented Giuseppe, therefore, who does not stop there but declares that he also loves plants and flowers and especially Bonsai, another passion that requires patience, care and dedication but whose results, as himself states, are for those who know how to wait, a bit like life.
It aspires to become a lecturer or anything else that can happen (I would not exclude the artisan career that has already begun in part).

Giuseppe, how many years have you been collecting Trollbeads?
It seems like yesterday, yet I have been collecting Trollbeads since December 2014. I remember a friend who showed it to me and who told me about having joined a promotion that allowed her to have the bracelet as a gift, buying the only lock: the famous Trollbeads day. So, fascinated by all this, I received my first bracelet with the "Spiritual Temple's Lock" and the "Letter G Bead", the initial of my name, given to me just for that Christmas (2014).

How did you get the idea to participate in the People's Bead?
As soon as I set foot in the Trollbeads world, the curiosity was really great and in searching the website I saw the competition whose theme, that year (2015), concerned the "travels"; unfortunately the submission of the applications had just ended and I felt terrible thinking it could be a one-off contest. When I found out that the company used to repeat it every year, I promised myself to participate the following year and it was: I participated (and won) in the People's Beads in the year in which Trollbeads celebrated their 40th anniversary. What memories!!

What did you think when you knew you won?
Have you dedicated your victory to someone?
Already one of the 100 finalists among thousands and thousands of proposals received by the company, meant for me to have already won, a real honor in a competition followed by all the fans. But even more, to have succeeded on the first attempt.
When I knew I had won, I was sitting in my room on any day, updating my email address and discovering the victory email from there. An email different from all the others, almost mistaken for spam because of the non-Italian language. Then a moment of silence, long breath and I screamed like never before (to my mother's fright). I had won. I HAD WON. I! But do you think about it ?! An emotion and an indescribable joy.

In the most specific way there was no real dedication to anyone. I would have been discounted if I had dedicated it exclusively to my family and to my dearest affections (that is understood); more than anything else I was happy to be able to share a bead with such a strong meaning, as well as the numerous battles in the world for fundamental and civil rights that for many are still utopia. Surely "Celebrate Life Bead" is addressed to them primarily, as an invitation to life and the strength to make it, always despite everything. Moreover in the same year of release, here in Italy civil unions have been approved. When you say the right bead at the right time.


How did the awarding take place?
Have you met Søren Nielsen and Lise Aagaard in person?
There was no "official" award ceremony, if we want to call it that. The staff of Perlunica, just before the proclamation of the People's Bead, invited me for a mini interview at their headquarters, to test the emotions of the moment, as well as doing a mini tour inside their headquarters surrounded by greenery.
I received the award through Perlunica's courier, which consisted of the bead I designed in the version with the gold rivet, accompanied by a congratulatory card signed by Lise Aagaard (in addition to the cash prize, as also written on the Trollbeads website. ed.)
I learned later that in the first editions of the competition it was possible to fly to Denmark and be guests of the parent company. It would have been really cool, certainly unforgettable.

So no, to my misfortune I could not meet either Lise or Søren, with whom, however, we sometimes comment / share posts on Facebook with each other. On the skin, beyond the great artist that he is, I find that Søren really is a person of innate sensitivity, as well as a person to laugh with.

How did you start creating beads?
After winning the contest, I said to myself: "And now?" The desire to continue and do something else was great and, since I have always been a person prone to small crafts, I thought that perhaps the next step could have been to try to create some of my pieces. The spark is permanently lit after witnessing an event on the working of wax, which starts the process of creating each bead. From there I decided to try my hand making it completely self-taught.
So every bead that you can see on my page / showcase "Beyoutiful Beads", born as a wax prototype from my hands, with all its merits or imperfections (there is so much to learn!), and then made in a goldsmith workshop using the lost wax technique.
Certainly it is not a question of beads made with a 3D printer or computer.

And fortunately!

What are your sources of inspiration?
The basic idea is to be yourself, beautiful as you are (Be you, beautiful = Beyoutiful), all seasoned with every single moment of our life (our dear beloved beads). The sources of inspiration for which, they can only sink into everyday life. Sometimes I walk and from a situation, an event, a reason, a form, a joy, a malaise, I happen to think if that particular moment can be immortalized in the form of a bead; at times it is so natural and spontaneous if one knows how to see beyond the reality of things. Surely the ideational phase is the most stimulating if, walking for too much thought, you don't risk going to crash into a pole! (don't worry, it hasn't happened yet).

Remember which was the first bead you bought?
Do you have a heart bead? Except yours, of course ;-)
If I remember correctly, the first I bought was, without even doing it on purpose, "Chakra Colours Bead" (winner of the People's Bead 2012). I love the colors and unfortunately the first choices concerning the glasses ALWAYS fall on the multicolored ones, those of difficult combination, and in fact sometimes I regret them because they are difficult to place. But I'm also learning on this front, the road is long!

I have lots of heart beads, but if I had to choose one for meaning and importance, it would certainly be "Holding on to love", a very simple bead but with enormous evocative strength. Two lovers that, despite everything, the chasms, the distances, are held firmly by the hand to not let go. Melancholic and romantic at the same time.

Actually it is a very beautiful bead to which I have never looked carefully at.

Collections other brands? Which?
Yes, I collect a bit of everything, but always based on what I really like, I don't pay much attention to the rarity for buying a bead. After Trollbeads, which is and will always be the first love, in order I love those of OHM Beads and Redbalifrog, but the support also goes to the many artisans of the glass as the compatriot Alessia Bead Fatone or others.

Plans for the future? Can you anticipate something?
Plans for the future? I hope beads and beautiful things! Let's say that summer is not over yet, so ... then if we set aside this topic, it would be nice to be able to put into practice what I studied for, in a job that gives me as much gratification as it is to make crafted beads.

Giuseppe, at the end of the interview, can you tell us a curiosity about you?
To stay on topic: did you know that my master's degree thesis is about Trollbeads? Well yes. In search of a topic to be treated for my thesis, which I wanted to be something personal and heartfelt, I thought to focus on one particular aspect of the brand: "The perception of Trollbeads modular jewels as neo-luxury goods". The paper, in addition to providing a bibliographic search and an overview of the luxury sector, was accompanied by an empirical study that led me to submit a questionnaire to all the modular jewelery enthusiasts who populate the various online groups. It was a gratifying job, which I gladly shared with a part of Perlunica's staff, and to whom I presented my own work with pride and pleasure. The hope was that I could receive an opinion about it or even more (why not?) the beginning of a journey with an internship in the company, which unfortunately did not arrive. How does it say the saying: "if they're roses they'll bloom?" Obviously mine were not.

Giuseppe, I remember very well the period of your thesis and I was one of those who completed the questionnaire.
Glad you have taken satisfaction. As for roses, as we all know that they have thorns, it is better to rely on other "flowers" ;-)
Thank you for having accepted this interview with enthusiasm, for having revealed you a little and telling us about you.

Giuseppe is a sensitive and passionate person and this transpires from his works and his words.
His beads I find have a strong naïf connotation, a genuine soul that is represented through the sensations and feelings in turn expressed in every single silver. This is a feature that I consider important for an artisan artist, so that he can stand out among all the proposals already on the market and I would say that Giuseppe, with his beads, stands out very well.

A big good luck therefore to Giuseppe for his projects!
