In questo 2020, dove tutti noi siamo stati coinvolti in uno scenario mondiale che mai avremmo immaginato, causa il Coronavirus, Trollbeads, nonostante ciò, ha portato a termine quello che ormai è divenuto un evento attesissimo dai collezionisti ed appassionati del marchio: il People's Bead.
Contest ideato per permettere a tutti di partecipare in veste di designer, ma solamente il vincitore potrà vedere realizzato il proprio progetto.
La vincitrice della edizione 2020 del concorso è Amanda White con il suo bead/progetto "Abbraccio della Natura", un ramo di edera realizzato in argento.
Scopriamo insieme qualcosa in più su questa artista che per la seconda volta vince il People's Bead.
Amanda White, nata nel Buckinghamshire in Inghilterra, fin da giovane ha sviluppato interesse per il disegno e la pittura, evidenziando un talento ereditato dalla madre. I genitori la hanno sempre incoraggiata, vedendo le sue capacità creative, così ha studiato Arte e Design all'Università, laureandosi. Di professione è Graphic Designer.
Ama la natura e le piace passeggiare nei boschi e in campagna, dove raccoglie oggetti naturali come sassi, pigne, conchiglie che conserva in barattoli di vetro, a ricordo dei luoghi visitati. Appassionata d'arte, musica e visite turistiche, trova ispirazione da ciò che la circonda, in particolare dalla natura. Adora fare lunghe passeggiate con il suo ragazzo ed ama esplorare nuove destinazioni, catturandone i ricordi con la macchina fotografica. Ama altresì il brusio della città, pur avendo una predilezione particolare per le montagne, i laghi e le piscine naturali. Quando non lavora o cammina, le piace mangiare fuori con gli amici e trascorrere serate in pigrizia guardando film.
Amanda, da quanti anni collezioni Trollbeads e come hai conosciuto il marchio capostipite di gioielli componibili?
Colleziono Trollbeads da circa sette anni. La mia storia con Trollbeads è iniziata quando mi sono imbattuta in una foto online. Era un gioiello molto diverso da quelli che indossavo in quel periodo. Ho studiato ulteriormente il marchio e sono stata immediatamente attratta dalla vasta gamma di beads disponibili. E così mi ha agganciata! Ho subito creato una lista dei desideri, in corso ancora oggi.
Ricordi quale è stato il primo bead che hai acquistato?
Il mio primo acquisto è stato il bracciale start "Luck & Joy", composto dal bead d'argento Nodo della Fortuna, dal bead Unico in vetro a pois blu scuro e dalla Chiusura Semplice.

La tua partecipazione al People's Beads di quest'anno ti vede vincitrice ma non è la prima volta.
La prima fu nel 2015 dove vincesti con il bead "Viaggio Tropicale", un bead di successo ancora oggi e che io stessa posseggo ed amo particolarmente.
Con due vittorie sei indubbiamente ed ufficialmente una designer Trollbeads!

Ma raccontaci un poco, quest'anno ti è stato subito chiaro con quale progetto partecipare?
Dal 2014 partecipo al concorso ogni anno. La natura mi appassiona ed è fortemente presente in tutti i miei progetti. Il design "Abbraccio della Natura" è stato ispirato dai boschi e dalle campagne locali, dove mi piace camminare e dove ci sono molte piante e fogliame che mi affascinano, ma amo l'edera per la sua determinazione, vigore e longevità. Contro ogni previsione, la fedele edera forma un forte legame che rimane costante durante tutto l'anno. Volevo che il mio design simboleggiasse l'unità che condividiamo con coloro che amiamo. Questo mi è sembrato più importante che mai, poiché il mio progetto è stato creato durante un periodo in cui tutte le nazioni erano esortate a rimanere separate per proteggere i propri cari

Ho ricevuto una e-mail dal quartier generale Trollbeads con la entusiasmante notizia!
Strettamente confidenziale, non mi è stato permesso divulgare le informazioni a nessuno. Inizialmente c'è stato un momento di incredulità e ci è voluto un po' prima che sembrasse reale. Una volta svanita la sorpresa, saltavo letteralmente di gioia! È un onore avere il mio design presente nella collezione Trollbeads.
Hai dedicato a qualcuno la tua vittoria?
Non mi è venuto in mente di dedicare la mia vittoria a nessuno, ma mi piace molto l'idea. Mi piacerebbe dedicare il mio design al mio ragazzo. Lui è il mio migliore amico! È sempre molto disponibile e mi fa ridere ogni giorno.
Beh Amanda, questa, lasciamelo dire, è la tua vittoria migliore, aver trovato un ragazzo che ti faccia ridere ogni giorno ;-)
C'è stata una premiazione ufficiale?
Purtroppo non c'è stata una cerimonia di premiazione ufficiale. Il negozio Trollbeads più vicino a me, a Londra, ospita un evento per il lancio del bead, ma il numero dei partecipanti sarà limitato a causa del Coronavirus. Fortunatamente ci sarà la possibilità di acquistare il bead online e partecipare virtualmente. Si spera che in futuro sia possibile organizzare eventi più eccitanti, quando sarà sicuro farlo. Naturalmente sarò felice di partecipare come vincitrice del People's Bead.
Il tuo progetto, risultato vincente, denota il talento che possiedi, talento creativo che è anche un lavoro, vero?
Sì, di professione sono Graphic Designer. Il mio campo di competenza è il packaging, ma sto anche cercando di sviluppare le mie capacità nelle campagne pubblicitarie sui social media. Ho creato grafiche per prodotti che vanno dai cibi surgelati, torte, cioccolatini, giocattoli agli utensili elettrici! Ho sempre amato l'arte e il design. Mi piacerebbe dipingere e disegnare come hobby, ma sfortunatamente il tempo spesso non è mio amico. In qualche modo però riesco a trovarlo per partecipare al concorso Trollbeads People's Bead ogni anno. Mi ricorda sempre quanto amo essere creativa e mi manca quando la settimana lavorativa intensa e i fine settimana frenetici, mi impediscono di affilare le matite.
Se tu dovessi organizzare il concorso per l'anno 2021, cosa cambieresti e quale tema vorresti proporre?
Questa è un'ottima domanda.
Penso che sarebbe divertente avere un'altra piccola collezione per il prossimo concorso People's Bead, simile alla "Collezione Detti Tradizionali" del 2013. Scegliere un tema è abbastanza difficile, considerando quante collezioni e temi ci sono già stati. Se la competizione fosse composta da più vincitori, forse qualcosa di specifico per il paese in cui ognuno di noi vive funzionerebbe. Potrebbe potenzialmente essere la versione People's Bead World Tour, progettata dai collezionisti.
Adoro il "World Tour" e penso che la tua idea sia fantastica!
Oltre Trollbeads collezioni anche altri marchi?
Amo i gioielli da che ho memoria. Collezionavo ciondoli a cuore. Ho anche collezionato un altro genere di gioiello, la linea "Beachcomber" di Kit Heath. Erano charms d'argento a forma di ciottolo che potevano essere indossati su braccialetti o come ciondoli. Purtroppo la linea è stata ritirata, non molto tempo prima che scoprissi Trollbeads. Di tanto in tanto, lungo il cammino, ho acquistato altri marchi di charm, ma Trollbeads è sempre stato il marchio che amo di più. Ora è l'unico marchio di gioielli che indosso, ad eccezione del mio orologio. Sono sicura che se Trollbeads facesse orologi, indosserei anche quelli! ;-)
A proposito di World Tour, ti piace viaggiare?
Sì, amo viaggiare.
Sei mai stata in Italia? Se sì, cosa ti piace del mio paese?
Il mio primo viaggio all'estero è stato proprio in Italia, a Firenze. Mi è piaciuto tanto e l'Italia è diventata il mio posto preferito da visitare per le vacanze. Adoro tutto di questo paese: il paesaggio, l'architettura, l'arte, la cultura, il cibo e ovviamente un buon bicchiere di Pinot Grigio! È diventata una mia ambizione visitare ogni regione d'Italia.
Se torni in Italia e vuoi visitare l'Emilia Romagna, nello specifico la città di Modena, sarò felice di conoscerti. Modena, terra di Ferrari, Maserati, Pavarotti e chef Bottura, per citare solamente alcuni personaggi famosi che sono certa conoscerai almeno per sentito dire, e dove potrai gustare un buon bicchiere di Lambrusco, vino rosso frizzante tipico delle campagne modenesi ;-)
Infine Amanda, raccontaci una curiosità su di te.
In completo contrasto con il mio essere generalmente una persona tranquilla che ama fare lunghe passeggiate ed ama paesaggi tranquilli, ho una passione per la musica ad alto volume.
Amo tutti i generi di musica rock e mi piace vedere le band dal vivo esibirsi ed è l'unica volta in cui potresti sorprendermi mentre tento di cantare!
Un'altra curiosità su di me è che non ho mai imparato ad andare in bicicletta ed a nuotare.
E, come probabilmente avrai intuito, sono "Trollbeads dipendente".
Grazie Amanda per avere accettato con immediato entusiasmo di essere da me intervistata e tanti complimenti per la tua vittoria!
Pur nella semplicità di raffigurare le sembianze di un ramo d'edera, sbalorditiva è appunto l'idea di questo bead che nel suo abbraccio può contenerne un altro, vetro, pietra o argento.
Significativo poiché, essendo l'edera simbolo di fedeltà, devozione e purezza, Amanda che ama godere della natura e di quello che ha da offrire, ha saputo cogliere appieno questa simbologia traducendola in un bead bello da vedere, da regalare, da indossare.
Ho voluto provare ad inserire all'interno di "Abbraccio della Natura" una pietra sfaccettata, di dimensioni maggiori rispetto le Pietre Piccole Rotonde o rispetto la perla. Ci è passata ma con un po' di difficoltà, quindi vi consiglio di prestare attenzione se volete provare a fare lo stesso, infilare una pietra o magari un bead in vetro sfaccettato, perché potrebbe graffiarsi.
I beads di dimensioni minori non hanno alcun problema né all'ingresso né in uscita, lo spazio consente addirittura di infilarvene due.
Al momento della intervista, Amanda ancora non era in possesso del suo premio, ossia il bead realizzato in argento ed il bead esclusivo per il vincitore realizzato in oro, quindi non ha potuto inviarmi alcuna fotografia dei due beads.
Speriamo di poterle vedere presto sul suo profilo Instagram "trollcharmed", dove peraltro è molto attiva avendo passione per la fotografia ed amando fotografare i propri beads, soprattutto in ambientazioni naturali.

Prima di salutarvi, mi vedo costretta a fare una precisazione riguardo questa intervista ad Amanda White.
Chi di voi mi legge abitualmente, sa che le interviste nel mondo dei beads sono state una mia iniziativa avviata con questo blog più di un anno e mezzo fa.
Che qualcun altro possa decidere di intervistare un collezionista o il vincitore di un concorso, può non essere un problema ma potrebbe diventarlo se le domande poste sono le medesime che faccio io (magari cambiate di una parola o di un verbo), addirittura nel medesimo ordine. E il tutto diviene ancor più fastidioso se ad appropriarsi di una idea e delle sue modalità è la azienda di cui spesso parlo e recensisco.
In questo caso specifico, mi sono ritrovata a leggere sul sito di Trollbeads UK una intervista fatta ad Amanda White che ha le medesime domande poste da me, magari non "alla lettera" ma il senso è lo stesso. Maggiore evidenza la pongono le risposte, che sono praticamente uguali, con particolare riferimento alla ultima domanda.
Come è possibile? Chi avrà copiato chi? Qualcuno se lo domanderà e la mia risposta è presto detta: cercate sul mio blog tutte le interviste che ho fatto a partire dallo scorso anno, troverete le stesse domande che oggi vedete qui pubblicate. Dopodiché tirate le vostre conclusioni.
Io le mie le ho tirate e sono molto delusa dal fatto che Trollbeads UK abbia deciso di appropriarsi del mio lavoro. Sì perché il tempo che richiede e l'impegno che ci metto, li ritengo alla stregua di un lavoro, con la differenza che nessuno mi paga per farlo e, tanto per essere limpida, mai nessuno mi ha contattata per un semplice apprezzamento, mai nessuno mi ha contattata per farmi avere la merce da recensire, in pratica mai è stato riconosciuto in alcun modo dalla azienda il mio operato, così come nessuno mi ha mai contattata per domandarmi di potere usufruire del mio lavoro e ricordo, al riguardo, che esiste la legge del copyright.
Chi ha piacere di condividere i miei contenuti, può farlo, basta citare la fonte o semplicemente basta chiedere. Le idee a costo zero, le idee "copia e incolla" non dovrebbero essere contemplate.
Perdonate se sono stata prolissa su questa vicenda, perdonate se posso sembrarvi presuntuosa ma per me era importante puntualizzare, ne va della mia credibilità oltre al fatto che io nutro profondo rispetto per chi dedica parte del proprio tempo a seguirmi e leggermi.
Un episodio spiacevole che mi auguro trovi una risoluzione ma soprattutto che non accada più.

Interview with Amanda White winner of the Trollbeads People's Bead 2020

Amanda White, born in Buckinghamshire in the United Kingdom, developed an interest in drawing and painting from an early age, highlighting a talent inherited from her mother. Her parents always encouraged her, seeing her creative abilities, so she studied Art and Design at the University, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree. By profession she is a Graphic Designer.
She loves nature and likes to walk in the woods and in the countryside, where she collects natural objects such as stones, pine cones, shells which she keeps in glass jars, in memory of the places visited. Passionate about art, music and sightseeing, she finds inspiration from what surrounds her, in particular from nature. She loves taking long walks with her boyfriend and loves exploring new destinations, capturing their memories with the camera. He also loves the buzz of the city, despite having a particular predilection for mountains, lakes and rock pools. When not working or walking, she likes to eat out with friends and spend lazy evenings watching movies.
Amanda, how many years have you been collecting Trollbeads and how did you meet the progenitor brand of modular jewels?
I have been collecting Trollbeads for approximately seven years. My Trollbeads story started when I stumbled upon a photo online. It was very different to my typical choice of jewellery around that time. I investigated the brand further and was instantly drawn to the vast variety of beads available. I was hooked! I immediately created a wish list, which remains ongoing today.
Do you remember what was the first bead you bought?
My first purchase was the "Luck & Joy" bracelet set, featuring a Lucky Knot silver bead, a navy Polka Dot Unique glass bead and the Plain Lock.
Your participation in this year's People's Beads sees you as the winner with "Framed by Ivy" but it's not the first time.
The first was in 2015 where you won with the "Tropical Travels" bead, a bead that is still successful today and that I myself own and love particularly.
With two wins you are undoubtedly and officially a Trollbeads designer!

But tell us a little, this year it was immediately clear to you with which project to participate in?
I have entered the competition every year since 2014. I am passionate about nature which features strongly in all my designs. The "Framed by Ivy" design was inspired by the local woods and countryside where I enjoy walking and where there are many plants and foliage which fascinate me, but I admire ivy for its determination, vigour and longevity. Against all odds the faithful ivy forms a strong bond which remains constant throughout the year. I wanted my design to symbolise the unity we share with those we love. This felt more important than ever, as my design was created during a time when all nations were urged to stay apart to protect our loved ones.
I received an email from Trollbeads headquarters with the exciting news!
It was strictly confidential and I was not permitted to disclose the information with anyone. Initially there was an element of disbelief and it took a while before it felt real. Once the surprise had worn off, I was literally jumping with joy! It is an honour to have my design featured in the Trollbeads collection.
Did you dedicate your victory to someone?
It didn't occur to me to dedicate my victory to anyone, but I really love that idea. I would love to dedicate my design to my boyfriend. He is my best friend! He is always very supportive and makes me laugh each and every day.
Well Amanda, this, let me tell you, is your best victory, having found a guy who makes you laugh every day ;-)
Was there an official award ceremony?
Unfortunately there wasn't an official award ceremony. My closest store in London is hosting an event for the launch of the bead, but numbers in the store will be restricted due to the Coronavirus. Fortunately there will be the option to purchase the bead and take part virtually. Hopefully more exciting events can be arranged in the future when it is safe to do so. I will of course be happy to attend as a People's Bead winner.
Your project, a winning result, denotes that you are familiar with design and the world of the arts, is it not just a hobby but also your job?
Yes, my profession is Graphic Designer. My field of expertise is Packaging, but I am also trying to build my skills in social media campaigns. I have created artworks for products ranging from frozen foods, cakes, chocolates, toys and even power tools! I have always enjoyed art and design. I would love to paint and draw as a hobby, but unfortunately time can often go against me. I somehow manage to make time to enter the Trollbeads People's Bead competition each year. It always reminds me how much I love being creative and I miss it when the busy working week and hectic weekends, prevent me from sharpening those pencils.
If you were to organize the competition for the year 2021, what would you change and what theme would you like to propose?
That's a very good question.
I think it would be fun to have another small collection for the next People's Bead competition, similar to the "Traditional Sayings Collection" in 2013. Choosing a theme is quite difficult, considering how many collections and themes have already been before. If the competition consisted of multiple winners, maybe something specific to the country where we each live would work. It could potentially be the People's Bead World Tour release, designed by collectors.
I love the "World Tour" and I think your idea is great Amanda!
Besides Trollbeads do you also collect other brands?
I have loved jewellery for as long as I can remember. I used to collect heart pendants. I also collected another kind of jewel, the brand line 'Beachcomber' by Kit Heath. They were pebble shaped silver charms which could be worn on bracelets or pendants. Sadly the brand was discontinued, not long before I discovered Trollbeads. I have occasionally purchased other charm brands along the way, but Trollbeads have always been the brand I love the most. It is now the only jewellery brand I wear, with the exception of my watch. I'm sure if Trollbeads made watches, I would wear those too! ;-)
Speaking of World Tour, do you like traveling?
Yes, I love to travel.
Have you ever been to Italy? If so, what do you like about my country?
My first trip abroad was in Italy, in Florence. I loved it so much, Italy has become my favorite place to visit for vacations. I adore everything about it: the scenery, architecture, art, culture, food and of course a good glass of Pinot Grigio!
It has become my ambition to visit every region within Italy.
If you return to Italy and want to visit Emilia Romagna, I will be happy to meet you, I live near Modena, land of Ferrari, Maserati, Pavarotti and chef Bottura, to name a few famous people that I am sure you will know at least by hearsay, as well as the land of Lambrusco, sparkling red wine, typical of the Modenese countryside ;-)
Finally Amanda, tell us a curiosity about you.
In complete contrast to my generally being a quiet person who loves long walks and quiet landscapes, I have a passion for loud music.
I love all genres of rock music and I love seeing live bands perform and it's the only time you might catch me trying to sing!
Another curiosity about me is that I have never learnt to ride a bike and swim.
And, as you've probably guessed, I'm "addicted to Trollbeads".

The "Framed by Ivy" bead, as I wrote to Amanda herself when I contacted her, I find both stunning and meaningful.
Despite the simplicity of depicting the appearance of an ivy branch, the idea of this bead that in its embrace can contain another, glass, stone or silver, is astounding.
Significant because, being the ivy symbol of fidelity, devotion and purity, Amanda who loves to enjoy nature and what it has to offer, has been able to fully grasp this symbolism by translating it into a beautiful bead to see, to give, to wear.
I wanted to try to insert a multifaceted stone inside "Framed by Ivy", larger than the small round stones or the pearl. She has been there but with a bit of difficulty, so I advise you to pay attention if you want to try to do the same, insert a stone or maybe a faceted glass bead, because it could get scratched.
The beads of smaller dimensions have no problem neither at the entrance nor at the exit, the space even allows you to insert two.
At the time of the interview, Amanda was still not in possession of her prize, the bead made of silver and the exclusive bead for the winner made of gold, so she could not send me any photos.

Before saying goodbye, I find myself forced to make a clarification regarding this interview with Amanda White.
Those of you who read me regularly, know that the interviews in the world of beads were my initiative started with this blog more than a year and a half ago.
That someone else may decide to interview a collector or the winner of a competition may not be a problem but it could become so if the questions asked are the same as I do (maybe changed by a word or a verb), even in the same order . And everything becomes even more annoying if it is the company that I often talk about and review about to appropriate an idea and its methods.
In this specific case, I found myself reading on the Trollbeads UK site an interview with Amanda White who has the same questions asked by me, maybe not "literally" but the meaning is the same. The answers, which are practically the same, are more evident, with particular reference to the last question. How is it possible? Who will have copied whom? Someone will ask and my answer is soon said: look on my blog for all the interviews I have done since last year, you will find the same questions you see published here today. Then draw your conclusions.
I pulled mine and I am very disappointed that Trollbeads UK has decided to appropriate my work. Yes, because the time it takes and the effort I put into it, I consider them like a job, with the difference that no one pays me to do it and, just to be clear, no one has ever contacted me for a simple appreciation, never anyone contacted me to let me have the goods to review, in practice my work has never been recognized in any way by the company, just as no one has ever contacted me to ask me to be able to take advantage of my work and I remember in this regard that the copyright law exist.
Anyone who likes to share my content can do it, just mention the source or just ask. Cost-free ideas, "copy and paste" ideas should not be contemplated.
Forgive me if I have been long-winded on this matter, forgive me if I may seem presumptuous but for me it was important to point out, it depends on my credibility as well as the fact that I have deep respect for those who dedicate part of their time to follow me and read me.
An unpleasant episode that I hope will find a resolution but above all that it will not happen again.
